“Citizens to make decision about EU”

BELGRADE -- Membership in the EU should be a decision of each citizen of Serbia, said Chief of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert.

After meeting with Boris Tadić, Degert pointed out that he and the Serbian president spoke about numerous challenges that still awaited Serbia in the European integration process. He announced that the EU Information Center would be opened in Belgrade in November, which would give the citizens an opportunity to better understand the EU and realize that decision about the membership was their decision as well. “We were in Subotica, Niš and here in Belgrade in the last couple of days and we met with people and explained to them what it meant to be a part of Europe. President Tadić has asked us to continue such activities. That’s what we’re committed to.” “We will soon open an info center at Dom Omladine (Belgrade Youth Cultural Center), in November, I hope, and we will be able to inform all citizens. Since this is about democracy, there’s no fatefulness in the accession into the EU. That’s a decision that everybody needs to make, each citizen should be a part of that and to feel that it’s their decision. That’s a message we want to send,” Degert explained. Source: B92
