Deputy PM, EU official sign financial agreement

NIŠ -- Deputy PM Božidar Đelić stated in Niš on Wednesday that "Europe has shown that it is keeping its word, even though it is going through the economic crisis".

Đelić and Head of EU delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert signed a financial agreement in the southern Serbian town. They signed the agreement on behalf of the Serbian government and the European Commission. The deal concerns pre-accession assistance for Serbia for 2010. The Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) allocated EUR 174mn of financial aid which will finance a total of 28 projects, it was stated during the signing. While expressing gratitude for the assistance, Đelić said that these funds "will solve the most pressing problems of the Serbian citizens", adding that special attention was devoted to helping the southern and southwestern Serbia. Degert said that the apart from EUR 174mn, Serbia will receive another EUR 12mn from the Cross-border Cooperation Program and additional EUR 12mn from the Youth in Action Program. The signing of the agreement is a sign of very good cooperation with the government and other authority representatives in Serbia, Degert stressed. Source: Tanjug
