President invites Austrians to inve
During his one-day visit to Austria, Tadić conferred Wednesday with Styria Governor Franz Voves and a group of businessmen. Serbia has a great interest in cooperation with Styria given the latter's achievements in the sectors of energy, environment protection, innovation, metal processing industry, construction and transport. After his meeting with Voves, Tadić said that Serbia was one of the first countries in Europe to start implementing anti-recession measures, which produced good results according to macro-economic indications. The EUR 2.9bn arrangement with the International Monetary Fund will secure macro-economic stability in Serbia, and the country's low foreign debt demonstrates its high development potential, he said. Serbia is a part of the European familiy of nations and membership in the European Union is its strategic goal it will not abandon, he said. Voves said that it would be a great mistake to halt the process of EU integration of Serbia and other countries in the region. Tadić and Voves agreed that creating a macro-region Alpe-Adria-Pannonia would contribute to the Western Balkans' European integration process, and to economic development of the region. Creating macro-regions is a way of enabling countries which are not EU members to get access to EU funds and take part in cultural and education projects more successfully than before, Tadić said.
