Đelić: Serbia will meet expectations
“Competent services are doing everything in their power to complete the cooperation with the Hague Tribunal and their actions are continuous,” the deputy PM said. If the Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz's expectations are met, his report will be a basis for the EU Council of Ministers to unblock the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) ratification process in mid-June, Đelić explained. He reiterated that Serbia had demonstrated that it was not “running away from responsibility or truth by passing the Srebrenica resolution and revealing a mass grave near Raška”. “At the moment it’s up to us to continue to work both in the economy and reforms,” the deputy PM was quoted as saying, and pointing out that he had received a “clear message” from EU officials that Serbia’s future was in the EU, and that there was an obligation to the citizens to start negotiations for the accession by the end of the government's mandate. “In order to achieve that, we must become a candidate next year, and in order to become a candidate, we must get their green light this year,“ Đelić concluded.
