Central bank reduces key rate to 6 pct
BELGRADE -- The Monetary Policy Committee of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) on Tuesday reduced the reference interest rate to 8 percent.
The rate was cut by 0.5 percent. “The Monetary Committee concluded that the inflation is still below the lower limit of the inflation target and evaluated that such a trend will remain in the following period,” a statement said. It also added that the low domestic demand and the slow recovery of world and domestic economy will leave a deflationary effect. Outgoing Governor of the NBS Radovan Jelašić will address a news conference on Friday, May 14, at which he will speak about the less restrictive monetary policy and the inflation risks which still exist.
